Q: Where did the name of the restaurant originate?

A: While traveling in Japan we learned that a popular English phrase was “my boom” which to the Japanese means “the thing I’m currently obsessed with.” Since we went to Japan in search of great noodles, it struck us that “boom noodle” would perfectly capture our obsession.

Q: Do you take reservations?

A: We do take reservations for parties of eight (8) or more. We can also accommodate larger parties in our private dining room.

Q: Do you make your ramen noodles in-house?

A: We don’t make our noodles in-house, but our noodles are custom-made for us by the leading Japanese noodle maker in the U.S. He makes them fresh for us per our specifications (thinness, waviness, flavor, etc.) and then sends them to us.

Q: Do you use MSG in your food?

A: Only our hot soup and noodle dishes contain some MSG. After careful consideration we decided that if we wanted our ramens to be authentic it was important to create them in the same way ramen in made in Japan. However, any of our soups can be ordered without MSG!

Q: Is your soup made at the restaurant?

A: Absolutely. Every day and throughout each day we make homemade soup stock and base for all of our soups.

Q: Is slurping allowed?

A: It is not only allowed but encouraged. Slurping shows appreciation and it makes the noodles taste better.

Q: Do you consider your menu to be “authentic” Japanese food?

A: Yes and no. For items such as Zaru Noodles and the ramens, we took our cues directly from Japan. Items such as our edamame puree and ebi katsu reflect some creative license. Modern Japanese chefs have hit such high levels of creativity that we wanted to celebrate their innovation with some of our own.

Q: Who owns boom noodle?

A: We are a Seattle-based company owned by James Allard, Steve Rosen and George Christothoulou. In other words, boom is not a franchise. We’re a local company committed to making our city’s culinary scene more interesting.
